In any kind of medical emergency – whether it be a minor injury or a life threatening condition our first instinct is often to call 999 or rush to A&E.

However, for non life threatening situations there are other options. One of these is a local walk-in centre. 

In 2010 NHS local visited Parsonage Street walk in centre in Sandwell, which had recently opened, to see how the doctors and practice nurses take the pressure off emergency services by helping patients with minor conditions to receive suitable treatment quickly.
